Statement of Faith

The Exchange Church is a church under the lordship of Jesus Christ and we are therefore committed to contending for the faith. We believe and confess the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Chalcedonian Creed as accurate representations of the teaching of Scripture.

Primary Doctrines

The primary doctrines within The Exchange Church Statement of Faith represent what we believe to be core elements of biblical teaching. We expect all members of The Exchange Church affirm these doctrines.

God

We believe in one true, living, God, Creator of heaven and earth, who eternally exists in three distinct, infinite Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient, and perfect in righteousness, justice, wrath, goodness, mercy, wisdom, grace and love.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inerrant and infallible Word of God, sufficient to achieve its purposes, without error in the original manuscripts and perspicuous, having one true and knowable meaning.

HUMANITY

We believe that all humanity is created in the image of God and possess intrinsic dignity and worth and is meant to reflect God’s glory in his creation.

SIN

We believe that because of sin, humanity is corrupt by nature, enslaved to sin, morally incapable of delighting in God and completely unable to fix its lost condition on its own and overcome its own preference for rebellion against God.

Jesus Christ

We believe that at the fullness of time, God sent forth his eternal Son as Jesus the Messiah, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, being fully God and fully man, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men.

We believe that Jesus Christ suffered voluntarily in fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan, that He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, that He died, was buried, and on the third day rose from the dead to vindicate the saving work of His life and death and to take His place as the everlasting Lord of glory.

The Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit came forth from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment; and to regenerate, sanctify, comfort and seal those who put their trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God that is brought to man by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, whose atoning blood was shed on the cross for the forgiveness of sins and justification before God. We believe that saving faith is manifested in belief, repentance, and good works.

The Church

We believe that the Church is the people of God, the body of Christ, and the priesthood of believers sent into the world to shine forth the glory of God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Resurrection

We believe in the personal, visible, and bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to judge the earth and that all persons who have ever lived will be resurrected with true, indestructible, physical bodies like Christ; that those having true saving faith will dwell on a new heaven and new earth with God while those who did not have true saving faith will be cast into hell forever.

Secondary Doctrines

The secondary doctrines (or theological distinctives) within The Exchange Church Statement of Faith reflect what distinguishes The Exchange Church from other churches who would affirm the primary doctrines. These distinctives shape the vision, values, and operation of The Exchange Church. We do not expect all members to embrace all aspects of these doctrines, but members should know that they will be maintained in all ministry settings at The Exchange Church, and we expect members not to teach contrary to them.

Complementarianism

We believe that men and women are absolutely equal in essence, dignity, and value but are distinct by divine design. As part of God’s good created order, men and women are to have different yet complementary roles and responsibilities in the home and church.

Believer’s Baptism by Immersion

We believe in the fully immersive water baptism of believers as an act of obedience to Christ symbolizing the believer's union in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Lord’s Supper

We believe in the observance of the Lord's Supper in obedience to the command of Christ which symbolically commemorates the body and blood of Christ which were sacrificed for all mankind.

Gifts of the Spirit

We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit that we see on display in the New Testament are still active within the life of the church. These gifts did not end with the close of the New Testament or the death of the last apostle.
